These are the terms for using desert.com. They're short by design. By reading the site or subscribing to the newsletter, you agree to what's below.
1. Who these terms are between
They're between you (the reader) and DESERT, the independent editorial project that publishes desert.com. Where they mention "we" or "us," that's DESERT. If you don't agree with these terms, please don't use the site.
2. The content is ours (or used with permission)
The writing, photographs, illustrations, logo, and design on this site belong to DESERT or to the contributors who made them, and are protected by copyright and related rights. You're welcome to read, enjoy, and share links to our work, and to quote short passages with clear credit and a link back. You may not republish whole articles, sell our content, or use it to train automated systems, without our written permission. Want to reprint or feature something? Ask us at hello@desert.com — we're usually glad to say yes.
3. Acceptable use
Please use the site in good faith. Don't:
- break the law, or use the site to harm others;
- attempt to disrupt, overload, hack, or gain unauthorized access to the site or its systems;
- scrape or harvest content or data in bulk, or abuse our forms (including submitting spam or false information);
- misrepresent yourself, or use another person's details without permission.
4. The newsletter is informational
Our newsletter and articles are for general interest and enjoyment. They're editorial — travel notes, essays, and craft reporting — not professional advice. If you're planning desert travel, please check current local conditions, access rules, and safety guidance from official sources before you go. You act on what you read here at your own discretion.
5. Links to other sites
Occasionally we link out to places, makers, or resources we think are worth your time. We don't control those sites and aren't responsible for their content or their privacy practices. A link isn't an endorsement of everything on the other end.
6. No warranties
We put real care into what we publish, but the site is provided "as is." We don't promise it will always be available, error-free, or perfectly up to date, and we make no warranties of any kind, express or implied, to the fullest extent the law allows.
7. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, DESERT and its contributors won't be liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential loss arising from your use of — or inability to use — the site or the newsletter. Nothing in these terms limits any liability that can't legally be limited.
8. Privacy
How we handle your personal data is covered in our Privacy Policy, which forms part of these terms. Please read it — it explains the newsletter consent, the contact form, and your rights.
9. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms from time to time. When we do, we'll change the "last updated" date above. If you keep using the site after a change, that means you accept the updated terms.
10. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of [your jurisdiction — to be completed by the site owner], and any dispute will be handled by the courts of that jurisdiction. (Placeholder: replace with the country or state whose law should apply before publishing.)
